Why do I hear a pop when my speakers’ volume is high?
I just installed 2 new sound Ordinance speakers in my car. When I play the music above thirty when even ever a strong bass note kicks in, I hear a pop. Almost like breaking a thin layer of plastic. The speakers work fine under 30, just I already invested money into sub woofers and It’s almost necessary for the stereo to be loud in order for them to work right. Could it be when I soldered my speakers I put the positive on the negative and the negative on the positive? Are the speakers not in tight enough? Or am I just going to have to settle with volume under 30?
It sounds like the speakers might be “bottoming out”. That happens when the speaker cone is being pushed too far, and the former/voice coil hits the back plate. You can try installing a high-pass crossover on the new speakers, to cut out the deep bass.
